I'm probably missing the obvious, but what is the difference between the "Home" view and the "Latest Posts" view?

My preferred view would be similar to http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/ which shows the three most recent threads grouped by forum with minimal additional clutter. The Home/Latest Posts view shows multiple posts from the same thread, and the forum view shows only the most recent thread per forum, with a bunch of additional clutter.

Just offered for consideration ...

Home and Latest Posts are currently the same view. Latest Posts is also a menu that contains the item 'Active Threads' that may be closer to what you would like.

We have some news feeds that will be added soon along with some further choices in the Latest Posts menu.

I like the news feeds, but it strengthens my call for a better view. The Active Threads view goes part of the way, and is currently my preferred view. If Home and the default Latests Posts view are in fact the same, then surely it would make sense for one or the other to default to Active Threads to save me from having to do the awkward hover / select to get to it.

Ahh bit more info. The plan is:

Home - latest list of posts, all posts visible

Latest Posts

  • Latest Posts - latest posts made by people ie excluding news items that haven't been responded to
  • Latest Threads - same as current - view by active threads
  • Latest News - all news items that have been automatically added by the System user

I'll take on your request to make Active Threads easier to get to.

I don't believe adding more options to the Latest Posts menu is the right solution. Taking whirlpool as an example again - one view, just happens to be the right one. I can't say whether I'm a typical user, but I don't want to have to switch between views to get to the information I'm after. I want to come to the site and be presented with a view that lets me see easily what I am interested in. The whirlpool style approach achieves that quite well without the need for latest this, latest that. A toggle option to show / hide news may be useful enhancement (but not as another view, just an easily accessible toggle on the view, with default customisable in user settings).

In the mean time, could the Latest Posts menu be made available when not logged on?
