From www.george.doig.com.au

George Doig's football career started in the South Suburban Football Competition in and around Fremantle. In one game in 1931 he kicked the whole score of his team - 26.21 - and 127 goals for the season. This feat attracted the attention of the East Fremantle Football Club and he was invited to play with the second grade team in 1932. In his first season at this level he kicked 126 goals.

Amazing feat. Can anyone veryify this?

well I wasn't there but I know the Docker's named their b&f medal after this legend and by all accounts he was something pretty special :-)  Good to see ex-premier Carps give him a tribute there on that website.  Imagine if he had of kicked straight!  47 goals! :-)

Almost, one point off. Courtesy of the Battye Library microfiche archive:

Sunday Times, p3, 6 Sept 1931.

A splendid performance

What must be a record is the achievement of G Doig who, playing for East Fremantle against Palmyra in the Fremantle suburban association on the Fremantle Park yesterday afternoon, kicked his side's complete goal tally of 26 goals 20 behinds. Palmyra scored 7 goals 7 behinds. Doig, by kicking 126 goals for the season, has topped the goal kicking list.

The more I think about it the more it seems like a contrived result. If I read the report correctly then Doig was on 100 goals with one game remaining, and the team then undertook to give _every_ opportunity to George to see how high a total he could reach.

A plausible assertion, but putting that aside I'm still uncertain of the factual accuracy of the claim. The Sunday Times article corroborates the claim of 26 goals, but the wording of the article, "goal tally", leaves open the possibility that Doig did not kick the entire team's score - i.e. the behinds. If each of those 26.20 came from Doig's boot then I think it would be an amazing result, even if contrived. Not one rushed behind, or touched off the boot, or contested ball off hands, or ...?

There might be some official records of the Fremantle Suburban Football Association hanging around somewhere. Google hasn't helped me to track down a lead yet, though. Any suggestions?
